First month of the new year and the (self-imposed) heat is on. Good thing we’ve got this guy (Jeremy) to help us out - https://thehardtimes.net/harddrive/scientists-discover-earth-is-heating-up-due-to-some-guy-hitting-consecutive-shots-in-nba-jam/
The news of NBA Jam coming to the Arcade 1UP is enough to kick off the month right. We get down to business with our gameroom updates (Brent has been tandem working on two Getaways and he’s going to build a Pac-Man roller coaster, while Whitney has been putting up gameroom lighting and installed a metal apron and art blades in his AC/DC) and then open the studio for “double shock power” when Corey Stup and Joe Stith from the Louisville Arcade Expo sit in with us to talk about the upcoming 10th anniversary of the show.
There’s a lot of Mortal Kombat love going around this year, so be sure to check out their website for all the show details and to make sure you lock in your early-bird ticket for the weekend!
We then round out the show with what can only be summed up as “Check the cornfield, Rose” (lots of references going around this month…) when J. Patrick of Podcasserole and Cale Hernandez of Marco Specialties sit in with us for the “Podcasting After Dark” panel from the 2019 Grand Ole Gameroom Expo. So much pop culture, so much mind reading and a magic trick to boot. We’ll park that right there.
Also – don’t forget to enter our Superman ’78 translite giveaway sponsored by LitFrames! Full contest details are available here - https://www.brokentoken.com/contests/win-a-superman-78-translite-courtesy-of-litframes/
Here we are – at the end of another year and with that comes a bit of reflection and some looking forward to what we hope will be an excellent 2020. We have a bit of a mash-up show this month as we draw December to a close – we square off on our monthly updates just as normal, but we then detour a bit and get right into what we think is some great “New Years Eve humor” courtesy of Cale Hernandez (of Marco Specialties) and Mike Vinikour (of Stern Pinball) as Brent and I had some time to sit down with them at the 2019 Grand Ole Gameroom Expo last month and talk about quite a few subjects besides pinball – it’s good fun and the guys there never disappoint. We also spend some time with Patrick McKennon (of Music City Pinball) as he tells us about his newest venture – a combined pinball & arcade “destination” location that is coming to the Nashville area in 2020.
We are also proud to announce a Christmas contest, made possible by Brad Hunter of Lit Frames. Be sure to enter before Feb. 15th for your chance to win one of 25 limited-edition Superman ’78 translites signed by renowned pinball artist Christopher Franchi! Full details are available here - https://www.brokentoken.com/contests/win-a-superman-78-translite-courtesy-of-litframes/
We hope you enjoy the show – thank each and every one of you for the support this past year and we look forward to a great 2020!
We’ll keep the contest open until midnight EST Feb. 15th. so everyone has an ample chance to enter. It’s “Super fun” (see what I did there…again??) to play along, as there’s only a few rules and caveats to abide by:
- Only one entry/guess allowed per person
- Prize is the translite only – Lit Frame is not included
- Shipping is provided within the CONUS; If winner resides outside the CONUS, then they will be responsible for shipping to the address of their choosing.
- Closest to the mark (over/under/exact) wins the translite.
- In the event of multiple winners, earliest entrant (by timestamp) gets the prize!
Best of luck!
It’s time to officially kick off the 2019 Christmas Holiday season and there’s no better way (that we know of) than to give all our listeners a whopping 5+ hours of “back in action” podcasting to chase off those holiday blues. Fair warning on this episode though – although Whitney is back in the studio with Brent this month and discusses his recent hiatus, it does tug on the heartstrings a bit in his update segment. Outside of that, it’s everything you’ve come to know and love, but with MORE HOURS!
In addition to the normal arcade and pinball discussion, updates and some reflection on recent news (of which we talk about desoldring irons, Ghostbusters code update, Firepower, our thoughts on the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, the Grand Ole Gameroom Expo, parts storage and displaying your Pinball translites in style, Deeproot RAZA and Haggis Celts, just to name a few off the top of our heads), we are humbled this month to share the MP3 with some distinguished ladies in gaming – Imoto Harney and Belle Wheeler. Both were featured panelists at the 2019 Grand Ole Gameroom Expo and we’ve included the audio from those panel discussions as interview segments this month!
September(ish); kinda (but not really) October 2019
Let’s start off by cabbaging a classic phrase and put a spin on it – “Podcasting finds a way…”
It’s very relevant for this show (No.. there haven’t been any Jurassic Park boxes have shown up at our houses, if that’s what you’re thinking) as we’ve had to re-work schedules quite a bit due to life finding its way. We’ll get into all of that on ep. 85 when Whitney is back in the chair. For now, we had to farm out co-host duties this time around to (good) friend of the show Jim Hale and we hope everyone enjoys this break from the norm!
Brent carries it all and we thank him for the commitment, otherwise there wouldn’t have been an 84 to get us to 85!
With all that being said, there’s a whole slew** of topics covered in this episode:
- How to speak “Kentucky” (as if you still needed a lesson…we’re at 84 episodes, after all)
- Stern drop target repair
- Thoughts on Stern Jurassic Park and Elvira
- “House of the Dead” monitor repair
- Flat panel monitor power supply repair
- Esoteric control panel art
- “I Dream of Jeannie”, “Bewitched”, and “the Dukes of Hazzard” cast changes (and how they scarred us all)
- The lament of Suncoast Pinball and Cosmic Carnival
- The Pontiac Fiero and its propensity to catch fire
- Arcade 1Up and Star Wars
