With continued unrest all around us and uncertainty at almost every corner, there are two things that we can count on to make the world a smaller (and better) place – our children and inclusivity. Both of those themes are front-and-center in this episode as we spend some good time listening to the “kids of the show” (Grace Roberts & Gareth Milwood) as they continue to grow up (way too fast, btw) and we get some fantastic insight from Elizabeth Gieske into women in pinball with a heavy focus on competitive play and how inclusive the hobby is and what works well and what could still use improvement.
We’re also visited by friends of the show David Corrigan and Dan DeBusschere as they sat in with us to talk gaming and their current projects. A good time was had by all.
It’s our hopes that if you weren’t able to join the live broadcast (or if you want to re-listen) then this (and the previous Friday livestream show at ep. 89) will bring some cheer to your shelter-in-place regiment – whatever that may look like.
Wherever you are in the world – we thank you for listening and hope that you and your family are safe and continue to be in good health.
Enjoy the show!
This is the first of 3 ‘special episodes’ that encompasses our coverage of the 2014 Louisville Arcade Expo.
This show was recorded Friday night, March 7th 2014 and includes live coverage from the expo floor, a daily recap of the show (with tons of banter, discussion and fun) and sit-in guest interviews from show participants. We catch up with Ed Lutz (interviewed in Episode 02), Geoff Schunerle (interviewed in Episode 03), local collector Jason Bradley and Travis Sims from Arcade Rescue 911. To wrap it all up, we even have a special visit from Brent’s niece as she sits in for a bit and gives us all the ‘expert’ view from the perspective that really matters.
We’ll also be releasing the Saturday night livestream show (with special guests John Trudeau, Preston Burt from Gameroom Junkies Arcade & Pinball Podcast and Phoebe Smith, more family members and friends of the show – just to name a few!) along with our special coverage of the John Trudeau and Python Anghelo discussion panel. Be sure to check back for those episodes to be posted soon!
Join in on the fun and relive the action of the expo! Brent and I proceed to talk ourselves hoarse over all the activity of the show, but it was a fantastic time and we look forward to bringing more live events to the show over time.
Let us know what you think – send us an e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or leave us a voicemail at 470-2CALLBT!
Thanks for listening and GAME ON!
(Channeling our inner Gomer – say it with us now….) – “Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!”
Hey everyone, we are back with a special ‘mini-episode’ this week in preparation for the upcoming Louisville Arcade Expo that’s taking place this upcoming weekend, March 7th – 9th, 2014.
Brent couldn’t get over to the mobile studio in time to get this episode ready to go, so I went to the bench and enlisted the help of my 8-year old daughter (Pumpkin) to sit in on this episode with me and we talk about the Expo from all kinds of angles – and from two very different sets of eyes. It’s amazing what sticks with the kiddos…
Besides the classic arcade and pinball action that everyone is ready for, we cover the upcoming events and seminar schedule, as well as our upcoming live stream events. We’ve got the schedule published below so you can refer back to it at any time.
All broadcasts will be available on our MixLR Radio feed – http://www.mixlr.com/brokentoken

We've also got a very special guest that is rumored to be sitting in with us, so check back for more details!
Brent, Kristy and I will also be manning our very own booth at the show, so stop by, say Hi, grab a picture with us and be kind and buy your very own ‘2014 Brokentoken Podcast T-shirt’ that will be making it’s ‘WORLD WIDE’ (lol) debut! Hey, it’s for a good cause and you’ll be supporting the show!
We’ll also be taking up donations for both Barry Oursler and Python Anghelo to help them offset some serious medical bills. 100% of the proceeds will make it to the respective GoFundMe campaigns for each person, so please consider donating for a very worthy cause and help our fellow man out and let them know that the classic gaming (especially Pinball) community cares!
We are looking forward to meeting everyone possible at the expo! Come on by and say Hi!
Now that the lights, sounds and crowds of the 2012 Louisville Arcade Expo are behind us, this presents the perfect time to revisit for those who didn’t get to attend. There was so much going on this year, that it was kind of hard to take everything in and make sure that all aspects of the show were captured. Hopefully this summary will give a good recap of the overall experience and show just how much has changed from last year’s show.
The 2012 edition of the Louisville Arcade Expo is heading back to town for the weekend of March 2-4, 2012, and it promises to be bigger and better than last year. If you happened to attend last year’s inaugural event then the format will be much the same of what we classic/retro gamers love – rooms packed with rows and rows of classic arcade games, pinballs and console gaming action all set on free-play and ready for hours and hours of fun.
If you need a quick refresher on the 2011 show, check out my recap – http://www.brokentoken.com/events/recap-louisville-arcade-expo-2011/.
What will make this years event different is not so much changing up any of the core events, but instead the focus is on improving the venue, game selection, expanding the floor space and generally making everything “better” where possible.
Follow the break to find out all the new goodness that will be this year’s expo…
